Princess Anne opens play centre
Apr 30, 2010, 13:05 GMT
Britain's Princess Anne opened a play centre yesterday (29.04.10).
The royal - who is 10th in line to the throne - officially opened a £300,000 'soft play' centre in Wargrave, Reading, which has been specially made for autistic children in the area who suffer with impaired social interaction and communication skills.
The Princess Royal - who is patron of rugby charity Wooden Spoon, which gave £20,000 towards the cost of the new playroom at Camp Mohawk - was greeted by local dignitaries on her arrival, before being shown around by Kate Kent, the camp's project co-ordinator.
Kate told The Henley Standard newspaper that the princess was "very interested" in the work of the centre.
She said: "The princess was asking me about the security and our new fencing and all about the soft play area. She was very interested and said she thought Camp Mohawk was excellent."
Luke Jansen, the camp co-ordinator, added: "This is an indoor facility where youngsters can let off steam in a completely safe environment. It is a fabulous addition to our facilities and we are so grateful to the Wooden Spoon charity for funding most of it."
