Queen Elizabeth's livestock tour
Apr 29, 2010, 12:02 GMT
Britain's Queen Elizabeth visited the largest livestock market in Europe yesterday (29.04.10).
The 84-year-old monarch took a tour of the Welshpool Livestock Market in Powys, Wales, alongside her husband Prince Philip.
The visit concludes a two-day trip to mid and north-Wales undertaken by the royal couple.
Queen Elizabeth spoke to 80-year-old sheep farmer Arthur George at the market, who was pleased to meet her.
He said: "She wanted to know how old they were and was very interested in the breed and how many we have at the farm. I think the queen keeps the status of the country."
Following a tour of the area, the Queen and Prince Philip paid a visit to Welshpool Market Village, which she opened.
She also perused a number of local craft and food stands at the market.
On Tuesday (27.04.10), the queen returned to a Welsh town she had not visited in 35 years - Caernarfon - where she witnessed the crowning of her son Prince Charles as the Prince of Wales in 1969.
