Prince Charles fights climate change
Apr 26, 2010, 12:01 GMT
Britain's Prince Charles has called for environmentally friendly refurbishments to stately homes.
The Prince of Wales - who is well known for his environmental advocacy - claims that old buildings and homes should not be destroyed or abandoned because it is a "terrible waste of resources".
In 'A Green Guide to Historic Buildings', drawn up by the Prince's Regeneration Trust, which works to ensure that important historic buildings at risk of demolition or decay are preserved, regenerated and re-used, Charles recommends ways to fight climate change.
He suggests homeowners should properly insulate roofs, harvest rainwater and generate energy.
In the foreword of the guide, the prince argues that older buildings are often more "green" than modern-day ones because they made a lot better use of natural light and ventilation.
Charles was recently presented with the German Sustainability Award for his commitment to ecological developments and environmental campaigning.
He has also previously met with global business leaders at Copenhagen's climate conference where he called for measures to reduce deforestation, including a carbon market.
