Prince Charles signs condolence book
Apr 22, 2010, 12:01 GMT
Britain's Prince Charles signed a book of condolence for Lech Kaczynski.
The prince visited the Polish Cultural Centre in London yesterday (21.04.10) to pay his respects to the Polish president and those who died with him in an aeroplane crash, including his wife Maria, earlier this month.
The prince's wife, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, will visit the centre today (22.04.10).
Charles and Camilla only recently returned from a three-day trip to the country, where they had stayed as guests of the president and his wife.
Clarence House immediately released a statement upon hearing the news and said the royal couple were "shocked and deeply upset".
The couple had been intending to attend his funeral, but were unable to travel due to the restrictions placed over the cloud of volcanic ash.
The president - who died alongside 94 other people in a plane crash in western Russia on April 10 - will be buried in a crypt in Krakow's Wawel Cathedral, a place which has commonly been reserved for the country's kings.
