Apr 13, 2010, 12:23 GMT
Britain's Duke of Gloucester opened a new public park yesterday (12.04.10).
The duke - who is first cousin to Queen Elizabeth - unveiled the restored Bury Mount and Watermeadows site in the Northamptonshire town of Towcester yesterday (12.04.10), before later touring the grounds and speaking to local school children.
The site, which is now officially open to the public, features archaeology, nature and heritage displays.
Jean Morgan, Chief Executive of South Northamptonshire Council said she thought the restoration project would benefit local families for years to come.
She said: "The restoration of Bury Mount and the Watermeadows is a wonderful addition to the public open space in Towcester. The finished scheme is really high quality and I hope that local residents and visitors alike will enjoy the area for many years."
Prince Richard - who is 19th in line to the throne - regularly attends the opening of heritage events on behalf of his monarch cousin.
He is also the Founding Chancellor of the University of Worcester and a patron of the Severn Valley Railway which runs from the same town.
