Kate Middleton's Scottish wedding dreams
Apr 12, 2010, 12:30 GMT
Kate Middleton wants to marry Britain's Prince William in Scotland.
The 28-year-old beauty is reportedly keen to avoid any comparisons to William's parents, Prince Charles and Princess Diana's wedding, and consequently does not want to tie the knot in London, choosing Edinburgh because it was close to the place she met the prince, when they were both students at St Andrews University.
A source told the Daily Express newspaper: "Officials at Buckingham Palace have been under huge pressure from Kate to try to persuade the queen to agree to a Scottish wedding. Scotland will always have a special place in Kate's heart because that is where she met William and where they spent so many happy years together at St Andrews University.
"Kate is adamant that she does not want to get married in London, especially not at St Paul's Cathedral because of the previous associations with Charles and Diana. Nor does she want to marry in Westminster Abbey because there have been so many royal and state funerals there."
Sources claim Kate's preferred location is St Giles' Cathedral in Edinburgh, but its status as the spiritual home of the Church of Scotland makes it difficult for William - who will become the head of the Church of England when his reign as king begins - to marry there.
