Princess Anne faces protests
Mar 31, 2010, 13:07 GMT
Britain's Princess Anne will face angry in Cambridge tomorrow (01.04.10).
The royal - who is 10th in line to the throne - will officially open the East Anglian town's Central Library but is likely to be met by demonstrators from a group called Cambridgeshire Against The Cuts, who are planning to voice their opposition to cuts in council services.
The activists are set to assemble from 9.30am and will then move to the library where the princess is due to perform the opening ceremony.
Tom Woodcock, a member of Cambridgeshire Against The Cuts, told The Cambridge News newspaper: "We will be protesting because the county council is cutting back on library services. People use the library for all sorts of things, especially in the current climate, not just borrowing books. It is a resource centre. The library service should not be used to balance the books. This protest is about council and Government cutbacks."
The group opposes cuts which have been made to services in the region, under measures which will see spending on libraries reduced by £1.1 million.
The princess will also tour the new St John Ambulance headquarters at Hartford while she is in the region.
