Princess Anne's care debate
Mar 9, 2010, 12:06 GMT
Britain's Princess Anne is to lead a debate on care in society.
The princess, who founded The Princess Royal Trust for Carers charity, will open a debate with the UK's three leading political parties -Labour, Conservative and Liberal Democrat - following recent coverage on the news regarding funding to improve services for carers.
Carole Cochrane, chief executive of Princess Anne's charity, hopes the discussions will help improve the lives of carers in Britain.
She told the Daily Telegraph newspaper: "We are pleased that the three main parties have decided to put aside their differences to engage in a serious and measured debate about the future of social care policy, and what impact this will have on carers.
''We hope that this discussion will highlight that all concerned are dedicated to improving the lives of one in 10 of their voters.''
According to recent reports, only 23 per cent of a £50 million government budget to help carers has actually been used for that reason.
