Britain's Prince Harry has given his support to the Royal British Legion Friends of the Forces Awards
The prince - who spent more than two months in Afghanistan where he served as a Lieutenant with the Household Cavalry, Blues and Royals, during his tour - believes the prize-giving ceremony, which acknowledges the efforts of anyone who has helped the services, are a fantastic idea.
He said: "These awards are an excellent idea, and I am very proud to be involved. I know how important support from home can be. For those serving in the British Armed Forces, the knowledge that others are thinking of them has a hugely positive effect that cannot be underestimated. I remember that very accurately."
Gary Martin, the Royal British Legion's manager for London and the Metropolitan area, told the Bromley Times newspaper: "The Friends of the Forces Awards will say thank you to anyone in London and the Metropolitan area who has contributed materially to the well-being or appreciation of our Armed Forces."
The winners will be those who have made both individual and community contributions and will be announced in July.
