Prince Andrew face police probe
Feb 12, 2010, 12:28 GMT
Britain's Prince Andrew is being probed after his 4x4 hit a policeman when driving into Buckingham Palace.
The prince is thought to have failed to stop or slow down after hitting the cop as he raced up to the gate of the London Palace.
The uniformed officer reportedly suffered an arm injury, prompting him to complain to his bosses about Andrew, the Duke of York's, careless driving.
The clash is said to have happened after the officer had seen the prince's vehicle approach the palace and noticed there were two Japanese tourists in the way. He was hit as he rushed to move them to safety.
A police source told The Sun newspaper: "The officer realised the tourists hadn't seen Andrew. He did what he is paid to do and rushed to protect them but was hit himself. Andrew didn't slow down and carried on as though nothing had happened.
"The Royals tend to drive in quickly because of security risks, but this has left the officer really shaken up. His worry is that the complaint won't be taken seriously by the authorities."
CCTV film footage of the incident is being examined, and no charges have been brought forward against the prince.
