Britain's Queen Elizabeth surprised passengers when she caught a train to London yesterday (08.02.10).
The 83-year-old monarch got into her own first class compartment at the station and travelled without the Duke of Edinburgh, who has decided to stay on at the Sandringham Estate for an extra few days.
An onlooker said: "She looked just like any other smartly-dressed lady getting on the train. People couldn't believe their eyes when they saw her."
The Queen arrived five minutes early for the train, which took her 100 miles from Norfolk to London, arriving in London's King's Cross station at 12:33pm.
She had her own seat and table in the carriage, which is understood to have been entirely booked by Buckingham Palace so that she could travel the journey undisturbed with her aides.
A spokesperson for the train company First Capital Connect told the Daily Telegraph newspaper: "The Queen often travels by train and sets a great example by doing so. It is the quickest and greenest way to travel between London and King's Lynn."
