Britain's Prince Philip has been doing his bit for the environment.
The Duke of Edinburgh had just attended a morning service at St Mary Magdalene Church with Queen Elizabeth on Sunday (24.01.10) when he spotted a discarded coffee cup in the grass on his walk back to Sandringham House and ducked under a rope to pick it up.
The 88-year-old royal - who was wearing his favourite long brown coat - then carried the litter back to the royal estate where he was meeting the queen who'd travelled by car.
John Harris, a regular royal watcher, said: "He is a shining example to the whole country. If it is not beyond the Duke of Edinburgh to pick up litter then it should not be beyond anyone else. I hope he is starting a trend which everybody will follow."
Ted Bailey, another man in the crowd waiting outside the church gates who saw the duke's actions added: "It was a very environmentally friendly thing for the Duke to do. I admire him for picking up litter. And he wasn't wearing gloves. You never know where these things have been."
