Sarah Ferguson's apology
Jan 11, 2010, 12:03 GMT
Britain's Sarah Ferguson is to apologise to Turkish authorities over her undercover TV documentary.
The Duchess of York faced jail after being accused of breaking the country's strict privacy laws with the show - which exposed the appalling conditions in the country's orphanage - but has now reportedly made an agreement with officials in Turkey.
Scotland Yard police officers are believed to have passed a letter on to her lawyers from the Turkish authorities demanding an apology, promising that in return they will not make moves to extradite her to face trial.
A Home Office source told The People newspaper: "The letter has been passed to the Duchess and I understand she has indicated that she would be prepared to agree to the deal.
"We have never come across anything like this so we have gone back to the Turks to find out how best to proceed."
It is believed that Chris Rogers, the reporter who fronted the documentary, 'Duchess and Daughters - Their Secret Mission', and the show's cameraman have been offered a similar deal.
Sarah's daughters, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, also took part in the documentary but no action was planned against them.
The group secretly filmed disabled children tied to beds in a state orphanage for the ITV1 show, which aired in November 2008.
