A former aide to Britain's Sarah Ferguson has gone on the run from prison.
Jane Andrews, who was one of the Duchess of York's most trusted members of staff when she worked as a dresser, escaped from East Sutton Park open prison in Maidstone, Kent - where she is serving as life sentence for killing her boyfriend Thomas Cressman - just days after reportedly attempting suicide.
The 42 year old had been moved to the prison last week and within hours of arrival was hospitalized after taking several paracetamol tablets, but returned to the facility "almost immediately".
It is believed by prison staff that her escape and suicide attempt may be connected to a relationship that Andrews - who has previously tried to kill herself twice - built up with a man on the outside.
A source told Mail Online website: "She wanted to be nearer to friends and family so she asked for the move south. It was a particular request and she wanted to be near a man friend. I'm told her distress and her suicide bid related to a relationship she has and issues with that.
"Authorities are very concerned about her welfare and what will happen in the next 24 hours."
There are also concerns that Andrews - who was jailed in 2001 - may have fled abroad after building up savings through charging rent on her £600,000 apartment in London.
A spokesman for the Duchess of York said: "We can confirm that she has been informed by the police but does not wish to comment further."
