The Scottish pop singer claims the 83-year-old monarch addressed him in the unusual manner when they met at the official royal residence in Scotland in July 2007.
He quipped: "I've been up to Holyrood House in Edinburgh and I got to meet the Queen, actually. She was very polite. Everybody else got a handshake and I got a high five. It was strange."
The 22-year-old singer attended the reception for an evening dedicated to those who had made a "significant contribution to Scottish life."

When Elizabeth met Michelle Obama, onlookers were astonished after the US First Lady broke protocol and put her arm around the queen when they met during the G20 summit.
In May 1997 Spice Girls singer Geri Halliwell breached royal procedure by planting a kiss on Prince Charles' cheeks and leaving a bright red lipstick mark.
Later that evening, after The Prince's Trust 21st anniversary concert Geri famously pinched his bottom and told him "you're very sexy'.
