Britain's Princess Alexandra has declared herself a "negligent patron" of a London school for children with cerebral palsy.
The 72-year-old royal has only visited the London Centre for Children with Cerebral Palsy in Muswell Hill three times since it was built in 1962.
During her latest visit yesterday (08.07.09) Alexandra poked fun at her absence, saying: "I certainly am a negligent patron, aren't I!"
While visiting the school - which runs classes and therapy for children with the disability aged 0 to 11 - Alexandra chatted to parents and students.
She later opened a new play area at the back of the school and accepted a bunch of flowers and a card from two young children.
During her speech, Alexandra said: "There are so many young people who are so involved here. The children seem very happy, and it is such a comfort to the parents."
Rebecca Wallace, the parent of a nine-year-old cerebral palsy sufferer, was thrilled to meet the princess, who is Queen Elizabeth's first cousin.
She said: "She had empathy and she was interested in how our son was getting on at the school. I was quite surprised - I liked her. I noticed she was introduced to all the children which was good and she showed a general interest in the school."

Sympathy is cheap. She cannot be bothered to be driven to her own charity. Sad
