Britain's Prince Charles is supported by almost 60 per cent of the Welsh population.
Charles - who celebrates his 40th anniversary of his investiture into the country today (01.07.09) - was backed by 58 per cent of people who were asked whether they would want another Prince of Wales when he becomes king.
61 per cent of the Welsh population thinks their country has benefitted from having a Prince of Wales during the past 40 years.
The poll, conducted by BBC Wales, also showed that 59 per cent of Welsh people think there should be a monarchy.
However, Plaid Cymru MP Adam Price thinks Charles should be the last Prince of Wales.
He said: "I believe that the institution is an anachronism, it's not the symbol we want to promote of a confident Wales.
"It's a personal feeling, and some people have very strong feelings the other way, and they're free to do so. But the trend in opinion is clearly moving in one direction.
"Some people have argued that it's a good thing that we have a Prince of Wales, as it means that at least people hear about Wales as a result.
"But of course they don't say anything about Wales in themselves, and it's not fair to expect the Prince to take that responsibility in that way."
One of Charles' aides, Alun Davies, says the prince has done "nothing but good for Wales".
He said: "He has led the way. He has done nothing but good for Wales, and you have got to be an arch-cynic to deny that he has been anything but good for Wales."
Charles is patron of some 400 organisations, of which around half are based in Wales.
