Royal family cost taxpayers 69p

The cost of Britain's royal family increased by £1.5 million to £41.5 million last year.Buckingham Palace accounts show every taxpayer paid 69p towards the royals during the last financial year, up 3p on the previous year.The accounts also show Queen Elizabeth was forced to supplement her civil list - which is used to pay for running her homes and staff wages - by taking £6 million from her reserve fund.The fund contains money left over from 90s civil lists. The withdrawal is the biggest ever made.The queen's 2008 civil list totaled £13.9 million, with £7.9 million coming from the government and the rest from the reserve.The fund has decreased from £35 million to £21 million in the past 10 years. If it continues at the same rate, the queen will have no money to draw on by 2012.The 83-year-old monarch is expected to ask the government to increase the civil list when their current financial arrangement - which was agreed in 1990 - ends in December 2010.MPs are expected to use the request to gain more concessions from the palace, including greater public access to royal collections and a clearer disclosure of spending.Richard Bacon, a Conservative MP, said: "If there is to be a quid pro quo, there must be far greater access to Buckingham Palace. The White House also has a head of state and security concerns, but is open most of the year round."

Any money made from the palace being opened more would be wasted because they would need to hire more people to oversee the extra tourists, plus there would need to be added security. Furthermore, the money that is made from the summer openings doesn't go now towards the upkeep of the Palace, it gets taken by the gov and is probably used for some MPs husband to purchase porn. They keep talking like this extra money from the Palace being opened more would pay for its upkeep but the gov doesn't let the Queen keep that money to use for upkeep NOW which is why the freaking roof is leaking. The gov is cheap and stingy when it comes to the monarchy but they seem to have little issue with sending over 40 million to the EU every year.
