Britain's Prince Charles is "deeply saddened" by the death of his close friend William Legge-Bourke.
The former Household Cavalry officer - who was the father of Prince William and Prince Harry's former nanny Tiggy - died aged 69 at his home in Powys, Wales.
A Clarence House spokesman said: "The Prince of Wales is deeply saddened to learn of the death of William Legge-Bourke. His thoughts and prayers are with William's wife Shan and all the family at his very difficult time."
She added that William and Harry had been informed and were also saddened to hear of his death.
Legge-Bourke's eldest daughter Tiggy joined the Prince of Wales' household in 1993 and looked after the royal brothers for a number of years.
She worked closely with the young princes during Charles' divorce from their mother Diana, Princess of Wales, and also helped them cope with Diana's death in 1997.
A statement made by Legge-Bourke's family said: "He was a much loved and devoted husband and father."
