Royal guard attacks tourist

A guardsman for Britain's Queen Elizabeth attacked a student mimicking his patrol.Nick Ibarra, 23, marched alongside the guard, who was on sentry duty outside St. James Palace, as his friend Suzanne Cadosch filmed his laughing antics.The pair - who had heard the famed guards could only leave their post if a royal was under threat - was stunned when the soldier marched over to push Nick in the back and aim a kick at him.Suzanne said she was afraid her friend would be shot after the Scotch Guard pushed him away with his SA-80 semi-automatic rifle.She said: "I just thought ?Oh My God he's got a gun and he's going for Nick.' He grabbed him and tried to boot him and we were so shocked we just ran away fast. "You often see people pulling faces at the guards and standing beside them for photo's and marching along with them but obviously this soldier didn't find it funny. "In hindsight I can understand the soldier losing his cool but it was very frightening indeed."Oxford University student Nick added: "I felt this huge hand on my collar and managed to avoid a boot up the backside but he was growling like a bear. "I was worried because he had a bayonet on his gun and didn't want that going somewhere painful! He pushed me away with the gun and I just ran for it."A source said the guard will not be disciplined over the incident, while another Queen's guardsman said he could understand his colleague's actions.The soldier told Britain's The Sun newspaper: "On one hand you can understand him wanting to put a hobnailed size 12 up the guy's backside for taking the p**s. "But on the other hand he will be in hot water for losing his cool when he should have ignored it. He should have gone back into his sentry box and just stood guard. "But he will no doubt feel very satisfied at putting this oik to flight."

People often forget that these Guardsmen are serving soldiers who go on operational tours to Iraq and Afghanistan, cover when fire fighters go on strike and provided support during the culling of BSE-infected animals just like any other solider. They deserve more respect than a silly tourist mocking them.

even while on ceremonial duties they are still soldiers on duty guard and carry loaded weapons,they don'y have to put up with silly asholes such as this trying to take the micky out of them.
A slap around the head with a rifle butt might have given the ashole something more serious to complain about.

Yes I can understand the soldiers point of view. But you must keep to your code just put up with for 5 minutes and than that guy will be gone and you'll forget about it the next day. Theses guys have a reputation and its always some tourist that tries and ruin that reputatioin, and lucky for that tourist he did. Luckily this is a small story and only happened to 2 people rather than in front of a huge crowd, than they would demand for punishment
