Queen Rania donates blood
Dec 31, 2008, 10:45 GMT
Jordan's Queen Rania has donated blood to help victims of the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
The monarch donated blood on Tuesday (30.12.08) to help Palestinians caught up in the fighting, where more than 350 people have already been killed.
An official statement confirmed: "Queen Rania visited the Al-Hussein Medical Centre today to take part in a nationwide campaign to donate blood and support the citizens of Gaza."
The queen - who is of Palestinian origin - has also published an article calling for Jordianians to do all they can to help ease the suffering of people in the area.
She wrote: "To be limited to expressing sympathies with the people of Gaza is shameful because they don't need to be felt sorry for, they need us to act and help, and I know that we can do more."
Rania's husband King Abdullah II donated blood at the same hospital on Monday (29.12.08).

'A few seem favourites of Fate,
In Pleasure's lap carest;
Yet think not all the rich and great
Are likewise truly blest:
But oh! what crowds in ev'ry land,
All wretched and forlorn,
Thro' weary life this lesson learn,
That Man was made to mourn.
'Many and sharp the num'rous ills
Inwoven with our frame!
More pointed still we make ourselves
Regret, remorse, and shame!
And Man, whose heav'n-erected face
The smiles of love adorn,--
Man's inhumanity to man
Makes countless thousands mourn!
