Britain's Princess Anne had a near miss yesterday, when a car chase ended in a crash just yards from a school she was due to visit.
Three suspected armed robbers fired shots at police before crashing their stolen Audi outside Westminster Academy in London's Westbourne Green district minutes before the princess was due to arrive.
Police alerted Buckingham palace and the royal visit was called off with minutes to spare.
A palace spokeswoman said: "This happened 20 minutes before Princess Anne was due to leave Buckingham Palace. The visit was postponed."
The chase began when the trio refused to stop for police in the Ladbroke Grove district of the capital city. As officers chased them at high speed through West London, the suspects began shooting from the rear window of the car.
The pursuit ended when the stolen car crashed into a police car, leaving two officers injured. The suspects tried to run away, but officers caught and arrested two people - one for possession of a firearm and car theft and the other on suspicion of attempted murder.
The third suspect escaped.
