Britain's Queen Elizabeth opened a theatre in Leicester yesterday (04.12.08).
The royal was joined by her husband Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, for the official ceremony at new £61 million complex the Curve.
The couple were treated to a performance of new show ?Simply Cinderella' which was commissioned especially for the event.
The visit marked the first time the royal had been to the city in six years.
Leicester Theatre Trust chairman of trustees Anthony Lawton said: "It means a huge amount for the queen to visit. It's a feather in the cap for Leicester, and for all the people involved it's just so exciting."
The queen also visited the University of Leicester's new £32m David Wilson Library and the Leicester Grammar School. She had not been to the university for 50 years since awarding its Royal Charter.
Vice-chancellor Professor Robert Burgess said: "To welcome the queen and the Duke of Edinburgh back to the university after 50 years is another tremendous accomplishment for the university."
