Britian's Princess Anne is at the centre of a controversy after her upcoming visit to a Lincolnshire town was termed "grossly insensitive".
The Princess Royal is due to visit Louth on December 2 to mark the opening of Wolds College - which provides vocational training to school leavers - but councillors have questioned whether the trip should go ahead as many locals are furious with the new building.
At a recent town council meeting, Councillor Jill Makinson-Sanders insisted it would be "grossly insensitive" for the princess to visit when many residents were upset the building was overshadowing their homes.
She said: "Their homes of 30 families have been blighted. The college may provide an important facility, but it is an example of planning at its worst.
"To have invited the Princess Royal to carry out the opening is surely adding insult to injury."
Councillor Andrew Leonard agreed, claiming the princess was running the risk of being "used as a pawn to endorse what is a rolling disaster zone".
He added he was an "avid" monarchist.
Other officials argued Anne should be welcomed to the town, claiming the new college was providing an invaluable service to the area's young people.
Mayor Fran Treanor commented: "The project is up and running, it is successful. Everyone likes a royal visitor."
