Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah opened a mosque in Morocco on Monday night (21.07.08).
The monarch unveiled a plaque and prayed at the mosque - which has been named after him - in the city of Bouskoura.
The king also inspected the mosque's facilities during a tour, and met the contractors who were responsible for building the place of worship.
He was accompanied by senior officials including Saudi Arabia's Foreign Minister Prince Saud Al-Faisal and Chief of Intelligence Prince Muqrin.
As the king arrived at the mosque - which is 3,200 square metres, fully air-conditioned and can accommodate 6,600 worshippers - he was welcomed by the Moroccan Minister of Endowments Ahmed Towfeek and Casablanca Governor Muhammad Al-Qabbaj.
The facility has a separate women's prayer hall to cater for 1,200 worshippers.
It also boasts housing for the imam - the mosque leader - and muezzin - who leads the call (adhan) to prayer - along with a storehouse and advanced sound system.
Bouskoura community, Deputy Chief of the Bouskoura community, thanked the king for financing the mosque and praised the strong relations between Morocco and Saudi Arabia.
King Abdullah has also offered financial assistance to aid the construction of another mosque in the city which was named after the late King Abdul Aziz.
