Britain's Prince Andrew attended a party for servicemen's children on Sunday (04.05.08).
Approximately 75 children and their families with fathers in Afghanistan, Iraq and Kosovo attended Hillsborough Castle in Northern Ireland.
The Duke of York, is the colonel in chief of the Royal Irish Regiment and the visit marked his 50th to Northern Ireland.
The party was hosted by Secretary of State Shaun Woodward.
Woodward said: "We own a great debt of gratitude to all our soldiers especially those currently serving away from home. Their courage and dedication to duty is outstanding. This very special occasion allows me to show my support for them, their children and family members who wait for their safe return."
Woodward said the duke's visit enhanced the occasion greatly.
He added: "His presence has added greatly to the occasion and proved a special treat for everyone."
Prince Andrew saw active service during the Falklands war, in 1982, piloting Sea King helicopters.
