Thailand's King Bhumibol Adulyadej's 80th birthday will be celebrated with five nights of fireworks.
Khunying Dhipavadee Meksawan, the prime minister's office minister, said the firework festival will take place in Bangkok and Rayong every night from December 4 to 8.
Fireworks on the first night will be launched from Thailand's Royal Turf Club, while on December 5 - the king's actual birthday - a spectacular display will be on view above the Chao Phya River near the Rama 9 Bridge.
On December 6, the sky above the Royal Bangkok Sports Club on Henry Dunant Road will be lit up.
A spectacular show will take place on December 7 at the Mae Pim beachfront in the Rayong province and on December 8 above Bangkok's Benchakiti Park and the Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre.
Meanwhile, the king's sister's recent abdominal pains have started to ease up.
Princess Galyani - who was admitted to Bangkok's Siriraj Hospital in June to be treated for abdominal cancer - can now sit up in bed for longer periods.
The royal has been regularly visited by the king, who was recently discharged from the hospital himself after receiving treatment for a lack of blood flow to the brain and inflammation of the intestine.
