Japan's Empress Michiko visited Tokyo's Mori Art Museum yesterday (18.09.07).
The empress viewed about 300 items at the Le Corbusier exhibition, spending about an hour admiring paintings, furniture and models of the Swiss-born artist's architectural work.
Le Corbusier, who was born in 1887 as Charles-Edouqrd Jeanneret, is considered a pioneer in modern architecture and is known in Japan for designing the National Museum of Western Art in Ueno, Tokyo.
The exhibition, titled 'Le Corbusier: Art and Architecture - a Life of Creativity', runs until Monday (24.09.07).
Michiko is the wife of Emperor Akihito, who she married on April 10, 1959.
She was the first commoner to marry into the Japanese imperial family and she has become the most visible and widely travelled imperial consort in Japanese history.
The couple have three children, Crown Prince Naruhito, Prince Akishino and Princes Nori.
