Kate Middleton, the girlfriend of Britain's Prince William, has been named one of the world's best dressed people.

The 25-year-old brunette made her debut appearance on the annual top 10 stylish list compiled by Tatler magazine in eighth position.

Kate - who has been dating William for four years - has been hailed in fashion circles for her chic dress sense. She is currently working as an assistant accessories buyer for upscale high street clothing chain Jigsaw.

Kate's possible future mother-in-law Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, was dropped from the list, after claiming a top 10 spot last year for her transformation from "frump" to "stunning, new royal fashion icon".

Kate Moss topped the list, which also featured the model's ex-boyfriend publisher Jefferson Hack in second place and 'Factory Girls' actress Sienna Miller in fourth.

Another royal, children's clothing designer Crown Princess Marie Chantal of Greece, rounded off the top 10.
