Britain's Prince Charles was left red-faced when he had no money to purchase a present for wife Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, during a visit to a market in Doha at the weekend.
Camilla spotted a small bottle of rose scent worth around £8 during the royal couple's tour of the stalls in the capital of Qatar, and Charles offered to buy it for her.
But the prince had forgotten he was not carrying any currency and Camilla was forced to borrow some money from an aide.
A witness told Britain's News of the World newspaper: "Charles is worth millions of pounds but he didn't have a bean on him. He looked a bit embarrassed but luckily one of the aides stepped in with some money at the last second."
The trip marked the royal couple's halfway point of their ten-day tour of the Gulf.
Camilla, 49, almost backed out of the market place visit after some worry over her health.
On Friday (23.02.07) the duchess - who is scheduled to undergo a hysterectomy when she returns to the UK from the Gulf tour - sparked concern when she was said to be unsteady on her feet, but seemed well again the next day.
Over the weekend, the royal couple also spent time with the King of Bahrain, Sheikh Hamad bin Isa al-Khalifah, who presented them with a gold Arabian sword as a gift.
