Sweden's Prince Carl Philip was detained at Miami airport by police after he was mistaken for an impostor, it has been revealed.
The 27-year-old prince was held in police custody last autumn after travelling from Venezuela to the US unaccompanied.
Despite presenting diplomatic ID identifying him as a member of the Swedish Royal Family, passport police did not believe a prince would fly unescorted and Carl Philip was taken in for questioning
Carl Philip was in working as a trainee with photographer Mattias Klum and was in Venezuela helping Klum and filmmaker Folke Rydén with a documentary about Swedish scientist Carl von Linné.
The group were set to travel from Venezuela to the US together, but the prince left his passport behind at a hotel in the town of Ciudad Guyana and ended up leaving on a later flight than the rest of the film crew.
His security guards decided it safe for him to arrive in the US alone.
Rydén told Sweden's Aftonbladet newspaper: "As I understand it he was taken aside for questioning and missed his connecting flight.
"I got the impression that he thought it was quite exciting."
However, a spokeswoman for the Swedish Royal Court, Nina Eldh, said: "I spoke to the prince today and nothing unusual happened when he got to Miami."
