Kate's long-lost relative
Jan 5, 2007, 13:10 GMT
Kate Middleton, the girlfriend of Britain's Prince William, is a relative of the late children's author Beatrix Potter.
A genealogy expert claims to have found a link between Kate's family tree and the author's, whose life story has been made into a hit new film 'Miss Potter' starring Renée Zellweger and Ewan McGregor.
The expert told Britain's Daily Express newspaper: "Kate is a descendant of a well-heeled Leeds dynasty, the Luptons, and is a cousin of two Lupton sisters - Elizabeth and Elinor - who were cousins of Miss Potter.
"They received illustrated greetings cards from the author in the early days of the 20th century."
Beatrix Potter wrote and illustrated many children's books about a collection of animal characters. Her most famous creation was Peter Rabbit, but she also wrote the tales of Jemima Puddleduck, Benjamin Bunny, Miss Tiggywinkle and Tom Kitten.
The author originally never intended to publish her books but invented the stories in illustrated letters to her young relatives.
