Spice Girls' Diana tribute reunion
Dec 4, 2006, 13:30 GMT
The Spice Girls are set to reunite for a performance at the Princess Diana memorial concert next summer.
The popular girl-band – who split in 2001 to pursue separate solo careers - are reportedly in talks to appear at the event, hosted by Princes William and Harry, which will mark the tenth anniversary of Diana’s death.
The possible reunion of the band – which originally consisted of Mel B, Mel C, Geri Halliwell, Emma Bunton and Victoria Beckham – is said to have delighted William and Harry, who are huge fans.
A source told Britain’s Sunday People newspaper: “The girls have all been waiting for the right opportunity to come along and do this. They have discussed it in the past few weeks and all have said, ‘yes’. It would be a dream come true for William and Harry if it comes off.”
The memorial show will be held at London's Wembley Stadium on July 1, 2007, which would have been Diana's 46th birthday.
The girls – who are expected to thrill the audience with some of their greatest hits including ‘Wannabe’ and ‘Say You’ll Be There’ - are said to be “honoured” by the chance to headline the important event.
The source added: “They had a lot of respect for Diana and were all devastated when she died. The concert will mark the tenth anniversary of the princess’s death so it would be a real honour for them to be the headline act.”
Other stars tipped to perform at the concert include friends of the princess Sir Elton John and George Michael.
Diana - who died in a car crash in Paris on August 31, 1997 - was a devoted charity worker and the Live Aid-style concert is thought to be a fitting tribute to the princess, known as The Queen of Hearts.
Over 90,000 fans are expected to attend the concert which will also be broadcast on TV around the world. Proceeds will go to charities favoured by the princess and the princes such as homeless charity Centrepoint and African conservation group Tusk Trust.
