Norwegian royals drop offer to buy summer house

Oslo - Norwegian Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit have decided to scrap plans to buy property near the southern city of Kristianstad, the palace said Tuesday. The royals had considered buying public broadcaster NRK's former recreational house at Flekkeroy, but decided to abort the plans over security concerns and considerations to neighbours, the palace statement said. NRK earlier sold the property, which has a 400-metre long shoreline, to Kristiansand municipal authorities. The palace statement said the royals would continue to look for a summer house in the region. Kristianstad is 320 kilometres south-west of the capital, Oslo. © 2006 dpa - Deutsche Presse-Agentur
