Prince Charles asks for clemency for Briton on death row in Pakistan

London - Britain's Prince Charles has asked for clemency for a Briton on death row in Pakistan, the British Royal Family said Thursday. The Prince had written a letter to Pakistani Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz appealing for clemency for Mirza-Tahir Hussain who is scheduled to be executed by hanging on November 1 when the prince and his wife Camilla are also due to visit Pakistan. The appeal is regarded as highly unusual in Britain. According to sources close to the royal heir, Charles has been concerned by the impending execution for some time. Hussain, a British citizen, was sentenced to death for murdering a taxi driver in 1988, while visiting relatives in Pakistan.
