Burrell's double embarrassment

Oct 11, 2006, 14:58 GMT

Paul Burrell, the former butler of Britain's late Princess Diana, was left red-faced for the second time in a week - after another dismal turn-out to his book signing.

Burrell was promoting his second tell-all book about the princess, 'The Way We Were' at Waterstone's in Glasgow, Scotland, yesterday (10.10.06), but only five people showed-up.

The 48-year-old was even more embarrassed when he discovered one of the five was actually a law student who was only there for a bet.

Instead of handing Burrell his book to sign, Anthony Narlock, asked him to autograph his notepad.

He said: "I didn't want an expensive doorstop."

The dismal turn-out mimicked a similarly embarrassing event at WHSmiths in Wrexham last Friday (06.10.06), when only five friends of his family came to show support.

Despite being left red-faced Burrell is adamant his tome - the follow-up to his 2003 book about his relationship with Diana entitled 'A Royal Duty' - will fly off the shelves eventually.

He said: "I'm sure they will sell for Christmas."

Meanwhile, Burrell has caused outrage by publicly mocking Queen Elizabeth.

At the New York launch party for his new range of wines, 'Royal Butler, the Paul Burrell Collection', the former royal servant said the queen spoke in a slow, robotic voice and was "terribly disconnected" from the real world.

Burrell also claimed the queen did not understand the public's grief at the death of Princess Diana.
