Britain's Prince Andrew has been touring America in his role as special representative for International Trade and Investment for Britain.
The Duke of York spoke at the nanoTX'06 conference in Dallas and visited a whiskey distillery in Virginia yesterday (28.09.06).
During his brief speech at the nanotechnology conference, Andrew, 46, said: "It would seem that nanotech's potential is seemingly limitless, with applications that can save and prolong life, reduce poverty and hunger."
He also emphasised ties between Britain and America, saying: "We have common values, and we are partners in good times and in adversity. Culturally and technically, we can successfully work together."
Andrew - ex-husband of Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York - also opened a reconstructed 18th century whiskey distillery.
After cutting the ribbon he was presented with a souvenir bottle of the spirit.
The prince asked if it was drinkable and said: "Not that I drink any of this stuff, but I will definitely have it on use at home."
Andrew, who has been criticised in the past for not fulfilling his royal duties, attended four official engagements this month, including the memorial service at the World Trade Center on September 11.
His sister Princess Anne, who carried out five official engagements in a single day, will have attended 46 by the end of this month.
