William's game plan
Sep 22, 2006, 18:03 GMT
Britain's Prince William has unveiled his "game plan" to become king.
One of the strategies - revealed by Clarence House yesterday (21.09.06) - includes William, 24, serving alongside his brother Prince Harry in the Household Cavalry's The Blues and Royals regiment.
He also intends to increase his public profile by attending charitable events and get involved in constitutional affairs.
Despite having received guidance from royal advisors, William - who is the second in line to the throne after his father Prince Charles - is said to have come up with most of the plan himself.
A royal source said: "The significance of this announcement cannot be overstated. William is, without a shadow of a doubt, very much his own man and there is nothing in this "game plan" that the prince has not thought through very carefully every step of the way. He knows exactly what he wants to do with his life and the way in which he wants to conduct himself first as Prince of Wales and then, eventually, as king."
The announcement has sparked speculation that William might be planning to leapfrog his father and take the throne over from Queen Elizabeth.
However, Clarence House insisted yesterday he was simply being prepared for his role as a monarch in good time.
A spokesman said: "These plans are very much about developing William's potential as a modern and well-rounded future monarch. His life is slowly being mapped out."
