Camilla's charity trek
Sep 21, 2006, 16:23 GMT
Britain's Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, braved the rain yesterday (20.09.06) to take part in a 10 mile charity walk.
Camilla - the wife of Prince Charles - led 90 children and osteoporosis sufferers on the muddy hike across Queen Elizabeth's Balmoral estate to raise over £200,000 for the National Osteoporosis society.
The duchess wore hiking boots and green waterproofs as she trekked around Loch Muick, the route she herself had chosen for the charity event.
Camilla personally raised a few thousand pounds in sponsorship for her role in the 'Big Bone Walk'.
The duchess became president of the National Osteoporosis society after her mother died from the bone disease in 1994.
Spokeswoman for the charity, Stephanie Lear, told Britain's Daily Telegraph newspaper: "Everyone need to know that their skeletons can be kept stronger by walking and it is fantastic that the duchess is taking the lead and stepping out for osteoporosis."
Similar walks are to take place all over Britain in the next few weeks and the total raised is estimated to be in excess of £200,000.
