Cruise's royal chums
Sep 6, 2006, 15:49 GMT
Tom Cruise is close friends with the British Royal family, a new biography claims.
The revelation is made by British author Iain Johnstone in his book about the 'Mission Impossible' star, simply entitled 'Tom Cruise'.
The tome describes how Cruise once charmed Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, and her two daughters Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie.
The author also reveals that the Hollywood star, who is engaged to former ‘Dawson’s Creek’ actress Katie Holmes, attended the funeral of Princess Diana.
Johnstone writes: "I first met Tom Cruise in a zoo while I was working on the film 'Fierce Creatures'. He was in a small shed with a load of meerkats, other mammals and Sarah Ferguson and the princesses. I remember thinking that he did have this extraordinarily powerful charm, which certainly seemed to have won over our royal family.
"I heard later that when news of Diana's death filtered through to Hollywood, Steven Spielberg rang Tony Blair and asked for two tickets to the funeral, which he and Tom attended."
