Camilla's royal duty
Aug 31, 2006, 22:30 GMT
The Duchess of Cornwall carried out her first solo royal duty in Scotland yesterday (30.08.06).
Camilla, the wife of Britain's Prince Charles, travelled alone to Aberdeen Airport to open a new British Airways terrace lounge.
Camilla chatted happily to crowds after unveiling the plaque at the £1.2 million airport lounge and was presented with a bunch of flowers. The duchess is a regular to the airport as she and Charles spend a lot of time at royal residence Birkhall in Royal Deeside. Aberdeen Lord Provost John Reynolds said: 'The duchess was beaming and so positive with everyone she spoke to.' Earlier this year, it was reported that Charles and Camilla, who married in April 2005, had been arguing about the duchess' royal duties. Charles felt his wife should be more involved in public duties, while she reportedly felt he was being unreasonable. A royal insider said at the time: 'Camilla doesn't want to do any more engagements than she already does. She has spent most of her life as a normal person and doesn't want to be thrust into the spotlight at her age.'Copyright 2006 BANG Media International
