Diana institute
Aug 24, 2006, 18:11 GMT
A South African man is setting up an institute in honour of Britain's Princess Diana.
Isaiah Kipkirui Soy-Young is the author of 'Princess Diana, forever a true and beloved friend of the people of Africa' and he plans to establish an institution in Cape Town to encourage people to continue Diana's charitable work.
Soy-Young told South Africa's The People's Post newspaper: 'Princess Diana was loved, admired and respected by everyone in Africa and for this reason we are in the process of launching an institute in her honour. 'Diana's gift was to be an encourager - she encouraged millions of people around the world to be more humane. The institute will therefore train people who are involved in or wish to be involved in charitable work. 'It will be an integral part of Cape Town, South Africa and Africa and there will be similar projects set up around the continent.' 'The aim is to help the youth understand the needs of disadvantaged communities, the disabled, the aged and infirm, the sick and those affected and infected by HIV or AIDS.' Soy-Young first met the princess shortly after the birth of her son Prince William and they continued to stay in touch by letter. She also assisted him financially through his studies. He described her as an 'encouraging and motivating factor' in his life. The institute will be situated in the Lansdowne area of Cape Town and Soy-Young hopes it will be up and running next year.Copyright 2006 BANG Media International
