Prince Harry asks for Eileen
Aug 17, 2006, 15:48 GMT
Britain's Prince Harry was left disappointed after his request to hear Dexy's Midnight Runners' track 'Come on Eileen' at a party was refused.
The young prince requested the song at a concert in his army camp - held in celebration of a passing out ceremony for recruits from his army training college, Sandhurst.
Unfortunately local band Beaver couldn't grant Harry's request as they didn't know the song. Lead guitarist Pete Smith is quoted by website theroyalist.net as saying: 'We play a lot of old covers and I didn't think the prince would know any of the songs but he said we were great. He asked for 'Come On Eileen' by Dexy's Midnight Runners. It's a classic song but it's not one we know as a band. We're definitely going to learn it though in case he wants to book us in the future. 'It was a real privilege. Prince Harry was very impressed. We gave him one of our T-shirts which he put on straight away. He chatted to us for a while during the break. He was very pleasant, just one of the lads really. 'We gave him our business card afterwards so who knows where our next booking will be.' The party, at Lulworth Army Camp, was themed as an American High School Prom. The band played Guns N' Roses and Bryan Adams covers, and Harry was allegedly spotted dancing to the tunes.Copyright 2006 BANG Media International
