Beatrice's portrait unveiled
Aug 10, 2006, 14:21 GMT
Britain's Princess Beatrice has unveiled her 18th birthday portrait.
The picture - shot by aspiring photographer and Beatrice's close friend Nikolai von Bismarck - shows the young royal looking over her left shoulder, with her flowing red locks held back by a white hair band.
Nikolai was said to be 'thrilled' to photograph the princess and used colour enhancement techniques to give the portrait a 'turn-of-the-century air'. However, the artistic touch has failed to impress experienced royal photographers. Terry O'Neill, who has photographed Queen Elizabeth in the past, told Britain's The Daily Mail newspaper: 'She's an attractive girl and there's good interaction between the photographer and the subject, but he spoilt the picture by changing the colour. It makes it look very unreal.' Nikolai - who is related to Prussia's Iron Chancellor, Otto von Bismarck - reportedly offered to take the photographs as a birthday present and Beatrice was said to be happy to give her pal's fledgling career a boost. The project has sparked rumours that pair are romantically involved, but both have denied the claims and insist they are just friends. Beatrice's choice of photographer also raised eyebrows, because her father, Prince Andrew, is an accomplished photographer.Copyright 2006 BANG Media International
