Queen's butler jailed
Jul 28, 2006, 14:58 GMT
A former butler of Britain's Queen Elizabeth II has been jailed for distributing child pornography on the internet.
Nicholas Greaves, 33, was a footman and under-butler to the queen from 2002 to 2004 and served at her 80th birthday celebrations just before his arrest.
Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper described Greaves as one of 'the queen's favourite butlers.' The butler's laptop was found to have 458 indecent images of children aged between two months and 16-years-old, and 15 films. Around 13 of the pictures were classed in the most serious category and some showed scenes of torture. Greaves, of Whitby in the north of England, was sentenced to two years for downloading and distributing indecent images of children. The former steward of the royal chartered yacht The QE2 was arrested at his home in Twickenham, London. While on bail, he tried to commit suicide by taking more than 100 unspecified tablets. Up until 2004, Greaves served the royal family at Buckingham Palace, Sandringham and Balmoral, he then took a job in the London home of the Jordanian Royal family. The butler pleaded guilty to 16 child porn offences and has been put on the sex offenders register for ten years. Judge Geoffrey Mason, who sentenced the footman at York Crown Court said that the depravity to which child victims had been subjected 'beggars belief'.Copyright 2006 BANG Media International
