Zara's father trains rivals
Jul 27, 2006, 14:34 GMT
The father of Britain's Zara Phillips plans to coach her Olympic rivals.
Mark Phillips - who is now divorced from Zara's royal mother Princess Anne - is his daughter's personal equestrian trainer, but he also plans to go overseas and coach the American team.
Zara hopes to qualify for the Beijing Games in 2008 and admitted she would find it 'weird' when her father - a former Olympic gold medallist - begins training her rivals at the World Championships in Germany next month. She said: 'I'm not sure how my father will feel if an American beats me to the gold medal.' Mark confessed he only expects the best from his daughter and demands total commitment to the sport. He said: 'I do most of Zara's jumping training and my wife Sandy works with her on her dressage. 'You have to want it really badly because success comes from hard work. You can't just go on holiday in the middle of training for example.'
