Royal couple visit flower show
Jul 27, 2006, 14:34 GMT
Britain's Prince Charles and his wife Camilla have visited the 125th Sandringham Flower Show.
Show chairman David Reeve greeted the pair and the Duchess of Cornwall was presented with a posy by Louisa Woods, 10, daughter of head gardener Martin Woods.
The royal couple spent nearly two hours touring stalls and gardening exhibits after arriving in a horse-drawn carriage yesterday (26.07.06). The prince is a patron of the Norfolk event and it was also a firm favourite of the late Queen Mother. Charles and Camilla shook hands with visitors, many of whom were struggling under the very humid temperatures. Mr Reeve revealed the prince had been concerned about royal fans turning out on such a hot day. He said: 'Most of the comments were about concern for people who had waited a long, long while in direct sunlight. 'The prince commented that it had felt hotter than many of his overseas tours.' Reeve also believed this year's event was the best yet, adding: 'The heat has changed none of our arrangements although we did try to limit the period of time in marquees as we have to think of people waiting as well. 'There was a tremendous atmosphere.' Celebrity gardener Alan Titchmarsh - a guest of the prince - said he had thoroughly enjoyed his day out. He said: 'If you think of it as a village show, which it is, there is no village which can do better when it comes to plants and flowers.'Copyright 2006 BANG Media International
