Prince William's nuclear training

Britain's Prince William is undergoing a gruelling training exercise in nuclear combat this week.
The 24-year-old royal - who is currently doing his officer training at Sandhurst Military Academy - will have to wear a hefty nuclear, biological or chemical (NBC) attack suit for the tough manoeuvres being conducted in Tetford Forest, Norfolk, despite a heatwave sweeping Britain and pushing temperatures to over 30C.
The suits are lined with charcoal to protect soldiers from chemical strikes and they do not 'breathe', meaning temperatures within the suit can rise to an astonishing 70C. It has been know for cadets to collapse through heat exhaustion, even in the winter. A spokesman for the Royal Military Academy told Britain's The Sun newspaper: 'It won't be cancelled because of the temperatures - after all it is about recreating the conditions of war.' As well as donning the thick attire, the 240 recruits will have to carry packs weighing 60lb and wear gas masks. A source revealed: 'Everyone dreads the NBC exercise. The instructors have called in extra medics and they will be watching the cadets closely. In four hours, a cadet may lose a stone of weight.'Copyright 2006 BANG Media International
