William and Harry's cousin shun
Jul 24, 2006, 14:12 GMT
Britain's Princes William and Harry missed cousin Princess Beatrice's 18th birthday celebrations to party with a jailed mercenary's son.
The princes had been expected to attend her party at Windsor Castle last week but instead they were at the Oxfordshire home of Jack Mann - the son of Simon Mann, who is serving seven years in a Zimbabwean prison for an attempted coup in Equatorial Guinea.
Jack, who was celebrating his 23rd birthday, met Harry during officer training at Sandhurst Military College. The close friends have now been commissioned in the Blues and Royals regiment. Harry and William spent the afternoon with Jack playing polo in Wiltshire. William rode alongside Jack as the Combined Services team beat South Africa. After the match, William, Harry and his girlfriend Chelsy Davy joined 200 guests for Jack's party. Harry, in particular, appeared to enjoy the evening - he was seen knocking back drinks. William, however, drank one can of beer and left after just an hour. A spokesman for Clarence House said: 'It was made clear at the time of Beatrice's party that the Princes had other commitments.' A host of stars attended Beatrice's Victorian themed birthday, including model Elle Macpherson, actress Demi Moore and star couple Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne.Copyright 2006 BANG Media International
