Britain's Queen Elizabeth tours warship
Jul 17, 2006, 13:50 GMT
Britain's Queen Elizabeth II toured a warship on Friday (14.07.06) to mark the 250th anniversary of Britain's Marine Society.
The monarch arrived in style, as she landed on board of 18,000 assault vessel HMS Albion in a private helicopter.
Elizabeth - dressed in navy blue colours - met the sailors and visited the operations room, as well as the empty sick bay. She was also shown the vessel's radar equipment and gasped as sea cadets performing acrobatics on ropes and bars. Vice Admiral Sir Tom Blackburn, who greeted the queen on board, thanked her for having honoured the ship with her visit. He was quoted in Britain's Plymouth Evening Herald newspaper as saying: 'At an earlier occasion, Your Majesty has spoken of the maritime and naval influence upon you as daughter, wife and mother of those who have served at sea.'Copyright 2006 BANG Media International
